by George Bernard Shaw

Performed: Nov 2024

Director: Paul Baker

After the seriousness of recent productions (Lovesong, Journey’s End and Top Girls), RoughCast return with a classic comedy: Pygmalion by George Bernard Shaw.
Cherup Capt’n and by a flower ofa paw gerl” – thus begins the story of Eliza Doolittle who is taken under the wing of Professor Henry Higgins, a linguistic expert. He has made a bet that within six months he can transform the scruffy, Cockney girl into a ‘proper lady’ and pass her off as a Duchess.
As Eliza undergoes a gruelling and often humiliating process of education, she begins to challenge Higgins assumptions about class and gender, and in doing so, discovers her own strength and place in society. A funny, moving story, later transformed into the musical hit My Fair Lady.
